My recent paintings are abstract compositions based on the formations
of Lichen found on the boulders of Joshua Tree National Park. I take
walks through the desert, documenting the color, texture and form
of the indigenous lichen formations with a digital camera.
To recreate the lichen images, I use acrylic medium, pure dry pigment
and paper on canvas and wood. I am presently experimenting with different
organic materials to incorporate into the acrylic medium such as
diamond dust, sand, glass shards, burnt wood/charcoal and recycled
paper.
