“Red Skirt Project” is part of a ceremony
celebrating human beings. It is an emergency action for this sinful
society. “Red Skirt Project,” performed by several different
female models, including self, in a public space. We were dressed
in re-creations of Korean traditional skirts.
The skirt did not have the ordinary function of covering the lower
body but was upside down to cover our faces. The performers pulled
their skirt to cover their faces. In addition, they had worn white
racy panties and high heels. Whenever they moved, they screamed and
shouted “APPA.” This means daddy in Korean. Performance
projects transform individually and collectively as we make radical
creative space into other spaces that confirm and maintain our subjectivity.
It is transportation both ancient and new.
My performative acts re-create and replace space and time. It is
not only about representing the inconsistency of the Korean Woman
Bride but also about human physical fear, death, sexuality, negation
of identity and about unsolved endless questions. This is for all
ages, ethnicities, religions, and races.
