The earth and all things in nature, such as trees
and flowers, inspire me, providing ideas for my creativity. There
is a beauty in nature which is often not acknowledged in day to day
life, yet it has always existed. The natural world influences the
object of my artworks. With the passage of time, each natural object
begins to form its own shape; flowers have their own beauty and trees
bear fruits. There is an inherent beauty in their form which arises
without any specific effort to be so. They don’t attempt to
be beautiful. Nature thus leads me to look at honest beauty which
already exists and makes me draw without a desire to be more skillful.
My project is about chance. The images I make are formed by a process
that engages the accidental. I use the spillage of ink on sheets
of acetate, allowing the ink to run freely. The ink produces its
own beautiful scenery. The resulting illusion depends upon temperature,
saturation, movement and other variables. In a second stage, I use
digital photographic processes to extend the imagery by scanning
and an erratic manipulation with computer software (Photoshop™).
In this process I continue to use the interventions of chance. Aspects
of my process have been engaged by abstract expressionists such as
Jackson Pollock and Dada artists and surrealists. In the form of
an installation, I attach a partially translucent image on a window
to lead audiences to look at the images with landscape. The work
then becomes part of nature and inspires the audience. The use of
contemporary materials, digital processes and the use of installation
gives this form new potential. To define simply my identity and methodology
- I attempt not to attempt.
